In 2019 the world witnesses the following: In Paris, France on April 15 much of the world watches in horror as a catastrophic fire rages at iconic cathedral Notre Dame. The fire destroys the spire and much of the roof of the 850-year old cathedral. On April 26, the final movie in the Marvel superhero series is released as the highly-anticipated Avengers: Endgame premieres in U.S. theaters. On May 6, the HBO historical drama miniseries “Chernobyl” airs its first episode. 33 seniors receive their Miller City High School diplomas on May 17. In November, two more streaming television “networks” debut as Apple TV+ and Disney+ become available. Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, the final movie in the Star Wars sequel trilogy, is released in theaters on December 16.

In Miller City, Ohio on May 18, 40 seniors graduate from Miller City High School. On June 11, President Trump meets with North Korean leader Kim Jong-un in Singapore, marking the first face-to-face meeting between leaders of the two countries. Four days later, Pixar releases The Incredibles 2 in theaters nationwide. In November Bohemian Rhapsody, the biographical film about rock band Queen, premieres in U.S. theaters.

In 2017 the world witnesses the following: On February 5, the New England Patriots overcome a 28-3 deficit in Super Bowl LI to defeat the Atlanta Falcons 34-28. The video game console Nintendo Switch hits the shelves on March 3. 32 seniors receive their Miller City High School diplomas at graduation on May 19. Closing out its 146-year run of entertaining families everywhere, The Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus stages its final show at Nassau Coliseum in New York on May 21. Nearly two weeks later, summer blockbuster Wonder Woman is released in U.S. theaters. On August 21 a total solar eclipse occurs, the first of the 21st century in the United States. The second sequel to the original Star Wars trilogy, The Last Jedi, premieres in U.S. theaters on December 15.

In 2016 the world witnesses the following: On January 9, the national Powerball lottery prize surpasses the $1 billion mark for the first time in its history. Miller City High School graduates 35 seniors on May 20. Pixar Animations Studios releases its 17th feature film, Finding Dory, on June 17. Two days later in Oakland, California, LeBron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers defeat the Golden State Warriors in Game 7 of the NBA Finals. The Cavaliers’ championship is the franchise’s first and the first major professional sports championship for the city of Cleveland in 52 years. Augmented reality mobile game Pokemon GO is publicly released on July 6. Brazil hosts the 2016 Summer Olympics with Rio di Janeiro serving as the host city. The powerful United States team claims the most gold (46) medals and overall (121) medals. On November 2 in an all-time classic World Series Game 7, the Chicago Cubs withstand Rajai Davis’s dramatic game-tying 8th inning home run and defeat the Cleveland Indians 8-7 in 10 innings. The Cubs’ championship is its first in 108 years. The following Tuesday, Republican nominee Donald J. Trump is elected as the 45th President of the United States, defeating Democratic challenger Hillary Clinton.

The last band concert of this school year is tonight at 8pm in the gym. We will be recognizing some fantastic student musicians also. Thank you to our seniors also for all that they have done over their four band years!
The last school day for students is Wednesday, May 22. School will be dismissed at 12:45pm that day.

Apple debuts the Apple Watch on April 24. David Letterman broadcasts his final episode of The Late Show on May 20, ending his 22-year run as the host of the show. Two days later, 36 seniors bid farewell to Miller City High School at graduation. At Belmont Park on June 6, racehorse American Pharoah wins the Belmont Stakes to become the first Triple Crown winner since 1978. The first sequel to the original Star Wars trilogy, The Force Awakens, premieres in Hollywood theaters on December 14.

Spring Elementary Concert Update: Due to limited parking spaces in the north/main parking lot, parking will be available in all lots this evening for the Elementary Spring Program. That includes the north lot (main entrance), the east lot (baseball diamond), the southwest lot (church), and the west lot (youth soccer). All doors will be open for parent/student entry. Parking is prohibited along the main drive into the school.

The Lego Movie is released in theaters on February 7. On March 8, Malaysia Airlines Flight 370 inexplicably disappears somewhere over the Indian Ocean on its flight from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing. CBS airs the final episode of the nine-season sitcom How I Met Your Mother on March 31. On May 16, 31 seniors graduate from Miller City High School. On July 11, LeBron James announces he is returning to the Cleveland Cavaliers after spending four years as a member of the Miami Heat. The new One World Trade Center building opens in New York City on November 3.

In 2013 the world witnesses the following: On April 15 in Boston, two large explosions occur near the finish line of the Boston Marathon. The explosions claim the lives of 3 people and injure 260 more. 36 Miller City High School seniors receive their diplomas on May 17. Apple releases the iPhone 5s which has new features such as a fingerprint sensor and AirDrop. The series finale of AMC’s acclaimed Breaking Bad airs on September 29 and is watched by over 10 million people in the United States. On November 22, Disney Animation Studios releases its 53rd feature film, Frozen. The movie goes on to earn $1.28 billion worldwide.
