We conclude our 100 Days, 100 Classes journey with the Miller City High School graduating class of 2024.
In the first four-plus months of 2024 the world has witnessed the following: Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs win Super Bowl LVIII in overtime against the San Francisco 49ers on February 11. On the first day of March, Iowa's Caitlin Clark breaks the all-time NCAA Division I college basketball career scoring record with 3,686 points as she passes LSU's Pete Maravich. In the early hours of March 26 in Baltimore harbor, the Francis Scott Key Bridge partially collapses after a large and disabled cargo ship collides with it. A total solar eclipse occurs on the afternoon of April 8 across the central and northeast portions of the United States. In Ohio, the totality begins at 3:10pm and lasts for just over three minutes. That night in Phoeniz, Arizona the Connecticut Huskies claim back-to-back national titles as they vanquish the Purdue Boilermakers in the men's national championship game. This evening at 7pm, 41 seniors will collect their diplomas and say goodbye to Miller City High School thereby becoming MCHS's 100th graduating class. We continue our 100 Days, 100 Classes journey with the Miller City High School graduating class of 2023.
In 2023 the world witnesses the following: From January 28 to February 4, a high-altitude balloon originating from China flies across American airspace before being shot down by the U.S. Air Force. A Norfolk Southern train carrying hazardous materials derails near the tiny village of East Palestine, Ohio on the evening of February 3. Due to the toxins released into the air residents within a 1-mile radius are evacuated. On February 7, Los Angeles Laker LeBron James breaks Kareem Abdul-Jabbar’s all-time NBA scoring record as he totals his 38,388th career point. On April 2, the LSU Tigers defeat the Iowa Hawkeyes 102-85 to win the NCAA Women’s Basketball Championship. The championship game, featuring LSU’s Angel Reese and Iowa’s Caitlin Clark, is television’s highest-rated women’s basketball game of all time. 30 Miller City High School seniors receive their diplomas on May 19. In June, Canadian wildfires originating from the Quebec province cause air quality to deteriorate in the Northeast United States as well as in parts of the Upper Midwest. That same month, an underwater submersible called Titan goes missing during a dive to visit the underwater wreckage of the RMS Titanic. Four days later, a portion of the vessel’s hull is found by search team members, confirming the loss of Titan and the deaths of its five passengers. Christopher Nolan’s latest blockbuster Oppenheimer, a biographical film about the man who developed the atomic bomb, is released in theaters on July 21. That same day, comedy movie Barbie starring Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling also premieres in U.S. theaters.
Tomorrow 100 Days, 100 Classes concludes its celebration with the Class of 2024.
