
We continue our 100 Days, 100 Classes journey with the Miller City High School graduating class of 2009.
In 2009 the world witnesses the following: Shortly after takeoff US Airways Flight 1549, piloted by Chesley “Sully” Sullenberger, is forced to ditch in the Hudson River near New York City on the afternoon of January 15. All 155 people aboard are rescued in an event later termed as the “Miracle on the Hudson”. In March, entrepreneurs Garrett Camp and Travis Kalanick found ride-hailing service Ubercab, later known simply as Uber. A rebooted film version of Star Trek makes its theater debut in Austin, Texas on April 6. Miller City High School graduates 37 seniors on May 22. One week later, Pixar’s first 3D animated film Up premieres in theaters across the country. That same day, Johnny Carson’s replacement Jay Leno hosts his final episode of The Tonight Show ending his 17-year run as the host. In Los Angeles on the morning of June 25, pop music legend Michael Jackson is rushed to the hospital after becoming unresponsive at his home. Jackson is pronounced dead later that afternoon. The New York Yankees win their record 27th World Series title, defeating the Philadelphia Phillies in Game 6 on November 4. Science fiction movie Avatar is released in theaters on December 18.

We continue our 100 Days, 100 Classes journey with the Miller City High School graduating class of 2008.
In 2008 the world witnesses the following: The New York Giants upset the heavily-favored and undefeated New England Patriots 17-14 in Super Bowl XLII on February 3. On May 23 in Miller City, Ohio, 32 seniors graduate from Miller City High School. The Boston Celtics claim their 17th NBA Championship, defeating the Los Angeles Lakers in the NBA Finals in six games in June. The highest-earning film of the year, Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight, is released in theaters on July 18. The Summer Olympic Games are held in Beijing, China from August 8 - August 24. U.S. swimmer Michael Phelps wins eight gold medals, breaking the record of U.S. swimmer Mark Spitz from the 1972 games. On November 4, Democratic Senator Barack Obama defeats Republican Senator John McCain in the presidential election to become the 44th President of the United States.

The San Antonio Spurs sweep Lebron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers in the NBA Finals on June 14. The following day, Bob Barker hosts his final episode of The Price is Right. On June 27, Apple’s Steve Jobs releases the world’s first iPhone. Cable network AMC debuts the first episode of the drama series Mad Men. Transformers debuts in American theaters on July 27. During the evening rush hour on August 1 in Minneapolis, Minnesota the I-35W Mississippi River Bridge collapses, killing 13 people and injuring 145. San Francisco Giant leftfielder Barry Bonds clobbers his 756th career home run on August 7 to break Hank Aaron’s 33-year old record. Amazon releases the reading tablet Kindle on November 19. Minimum wage in 2007 is $5.85 while a loaf of bread costs $1.20 and a dozen eggs cost $1.68.

We continue our 100 Days, 100 Classes journey with the Miller City High School graduating class of 2006.
In 2006 the world witnesses the following: On January 4 in arguably the greatest college football game ever played, QB Vince Young’s last-minute touchdown run lifts the Texas Longhorns over the USC Trojans 41-38 in the National Championship game at the Rose Bowl. In the Super Bowl in February, head coach Bill Cowher – in his last game – leads the Pittsburgh Steelers to a 21-10 victory over the Seattle Seahawks giving the Steelers their fifth NFL title. On March 16, the Blu-ray disc format is released in the U.S. Miller City High School graduates 27 seniors on May 19. On July 15 the social media app Twitter is launched. Pixar’s seventh animated film, Cars, debuts in theaters across the country on June 9. For the first time in the rivalry’s 106-game history, Ohio State and Michigan clash as the #1 and #2 ranked teams. The #1 Buckeyes defeat the #2 Wolverines 42-39 at the Horseshoe in Columbus on November 18. The following day Nintendo releases the game console Wii.

The last of the Star Wars prequels, Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith is released in theaters on May 19. The following day, Miller City High School graduates 35 seniors. ABC airs the first-ever episode of Dancing with the Stars on June 1. Hurricane Katrina makes landfall over southeast Louisiana and Mississippi on August 29. The devastating storm takes the lives of over 1,800 people and causes over $108 billion dollars in damages. The Chicago White Sox win their first World Series in 88 seasons, sweeping the Houston Astros in four games in October. Peter Jackson’s remake of King Kong hits U.S. theaters on December 14. Hosted by Howie Mandel, the American version of Deal or No Deal, premieres on NBC five days later.

On April 29, the last Oldsmobile – an Alero – rolls off the assembly line at the Lansing Car Assembly plant in Michigan, ending the 106-year old run of the automotive brand. NBC airs the final episode of Friends on May 6 with an estimated 66 million viewers tuning in to say goodbye to Chandler, Joey, Monica, Phoebe, Rachel and Ross. In Miller City, Ohio on May 21, 35 seniors receive their high school diplomas. From August 13 - August 29, the Summer Olympics are held in Athens, Greece. The U.S. team wins 36 gold medals and 101 overall medals in dominating the two-week spectacle. Breaking an 86-year drought the Boston Red Sox win the World Series, sweeping the St. Louis Cardinals in four games. In the November presidential election, incumbent George W. Bush defeats Democratic challenger John Kerry to win his second term as the commander-in-chief. Pixar Studios releases The Incredibles on November 5. Ken Jennings’s 74-game winning streak on Jeopardy! comes to an end on November 30.

In 2003 the world witnesses the following: On January 3 at the Fiesta Bowl in Tempe, Arizona the Ohio State Buckeyes upset the Miami Hurricanes 31-24 in double-overtime nailbiter to claim the school’s seventh football national championship. On the first day of February, space shuttle Columbia disintegrates upon re-entry, killing all seven astronauts on board. The United States begins airstrikes on Baghdad, Iraq on March 19 as the first salvo against Iraqi President Saddam Hussein’s failure to comply with U.S. President George Bush’s mandate that Hussein and his two sons leave Iraq. Just three weeks later on April 9, U.S. forces seize control of Baghdad, effectively ending Hussein’s regime. Apple releases the revolutionary online music store iTunes on April 28. At Cedar Point Amusement Park on May 4 the 420-foot high steel rollercoaster Top Thrill Dragster opens. 37 seniors say farewell to Miller City High School at graduation on May 23. One week later, Pixar Animation Studios releases its fifth feature film, Finding Nemo. On July 9, Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl, starring Johnny Depp as Jack Sparrow, debuts in theaters.

In 2002 the world witnesses the following: In Super Bowl XXXVI in New Orleans, quarterback Tom Brady engineers a last-minute drive that results in a game-winning field goal giving the New England Patriots their first Super Bowl victory, 20-17 over the St. Louis Rams. Salt Lake City, Utah serves as the host city for the 2002 Winter Olympics from February 8 - 24. The U.S. team claims 10 gold medals and 34 medals overall. On May 3, superhero movie Spider-Man premieres in U.S. theaters. On May 24, Miller City High School graduates 38 seniors. The first episode of American Idol airs on June 11. On November 23, quarterback Craig Krenzel and the Ohio State Buckeyes finish off a perfect 13-0 regular season with a thrilling 13-9 victory over archrival Michigan to earn a trip to the BCS National Championship game.
